POSTURAL STUDY
Why do a postural study?
Whatever your cycling level, it is important that you can ride in the best conditions, which means optimum comfort, performance and control of your bike. That's why at DECATHLON you can benefit from a postural study in order to get the most out of cycling, and enjoy your bike in total safety.
Research
After several years of research in association with the University of Bordeaux, the Décathlon Création research centre was able to highlight pedalling characteristics and the interaction between a cyclist and his bike. These interactions concern three pressure zones (saddle, handlebar, and the pedals). Our research showed that the position of the cyclist's legs could optimise pedalling effort, and the position of the upper body influenced comfort and handling.
Furthermore, these studies also showed that position depends on use. Which means that, for each discipline, there is a corresponding "ideal" position, balancing comfort, performance, and handling. Depending on this compromise, and on the cyclist's stature, the optimum cycling position is found from the configuration of these three pressure zones.
Diagnostic interview
The diagnosis identifies:
- your use of your bike
- the type of bike you want to use
Your advisor will take into account your sporting history, and any physical problems you may have.
Solution
Your measurements are then processed by a computer program that determines the "frame-peripheral components" combination that will be best for you.
The software can also calculate the values for adjusting your bike.
Bike adjustment
The values produced by the software are used to adjust your bike. These means that the drive parts (saddle, cranks, pedals) and steering elements (handlebar, handlebar stem) are adjusted to provide more performance and more fun.
The offer
It comprises:
- The diagnostic interview to identify your use and your bike model.
- Taking measurements.
- Calculation of your optimum riding position using specific software, which determines the "frame-peripheral components" combination that will be best for you.
- A personal summary card, showing the values for adjusting your bike.
